The next edition of Louisville Life features Courier-Journal columnist Bob Hill’s “homegrown” tourist attraction, Crosley Radio’s new electronics with old-fashioned appeal, the zany life of the Louisville Bats’ mascot and Louisvillians who dedicate their lives to finding happy homes for pets in need. The program, hosted by Candyce Clifft, airs Thursday, May 8 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT; Friday, May 9 at 4/3 p.m. CT; and Sunday, May 11 at noon/11 a.m. CT on KET2. First, Louisville Life meets Courier-Journal columnist and Homegrown radio host Bob Hill. Hill and his wife, Janet, own and operate the Hidden Hill Nursery and Sculpture Garden in Utica, Ind. Hidden Hill’s attractions include a mini-arboretum, sculpture gallery, an unusual plant nursery and an outdoor model train. The couple talks about what it’s like to have a home that doubles as an agri-tourism attraction. Next, the program spotlights Crosley Radio, a company with Louisville roots that produces retro consumer electronics, including CD players that look like old-fashioned radios. Their products are consumer favorites at stores like Target, Pottery Barn or Restoration Hardware. Then, viewers learn about life as a mascot when Louisville Life meets Buddy Bat, the mascot for the Triple-A affiliate Louisville Bats baseball team. The man behind Buddy is a high school teacher, operates his own “mascot school” and writes children’s books. This segment also looks at the importance of mascots, who add energy to events, provide family entertainment and serve as effective marketing tools. Back at the studio, Candyce interviews Jackie Gulbe, assistant director of community relations with Metro Animal Services. Gulbe discusses National Pet Week (May 6 through 12) and the importance of pet adoption and care. Finally, Louisville Life features a “GRRAND” organization that helps finds homes for displaced dogs. The Golden Retriever Rescue and Adoption of Needy Dogs (GRRAND) is a nonprofit group based in Louisville. Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler.
