Renee speaks with environmentalist and activist Jim Embry, founder of Sustainable Communities Network (SCN) in Lexington, on the next Connections with Renee Shaw. The program airs Saturday, June 7 at 3/2 p.m. CT on KET1 and Sunday, June 8 at 11:30/10:30 a.m. CT on KET2.
Embry discusses sustainable living, which SCN defines as the ability to meet the needs of a community without compromising its ability to meet future needs. He suggests that the efforts of leaders in government, business, education and religion need to integrate to create a truly sustainable community.
Embry also talks about the importance of community gardens; the Isaac Murphy Memorial Garden, located in downtown Lexington; Youth GreenCorps, which encourages teens to participate in improving their communities’ landscapes; and the Northeast Lexington Initiative, a community enhancement group.
Connections with Renee Shaw is a KET production, produced by Renee Shaw and Carolyn Gwinn. More information about Connections, including streaming video, is available at www.ket.org/connections.
