The early life of the Kentuckian who led the Confederate States of America is presented in Jefferson Davis — American President, airing Tuesday, June 3 at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET1.
The program explores Jefferson Davis’ Kentucky birthplace, his Mississippi boyhood at Rosemont and his early schooling at Transylvania University in Lexington and later West Point. Davis endures the tragic loss of his first wife only months after their wedding and forges a political path that leads him to Washington City as a Mississippi representative to Congress. He remarries, enters the Mexican War and returns a hero. He is appointed to the Senate but leaves Washington in 1851 to run for governor of Mississippi.
