The MacRae Brothers |
Quesenberry |
Timberline Drive |
Two groups of hardened bluegrass veterans –– Timberline Drive and the MacRae Brothers –– take the stage on the next edition of Jubilee. Taped at the River of Music Party in Owensboro last summer, the program airs Wednesday, June 4 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1 and Saturday, June 7 at 11/10 p.m. CT on KET2.
Based in Bowling Green, Timberline Drive brings skilled expertise to the stage — the result of years of performing and recording together and with other groups. Timberline Drive members are Louise Miles, a Boston, Ky. native, on bass; Earl Grubbs, who lives in Tennessee, on dobro; Randy Saltsman, who is from Leitchfield, on banjo; and Owensboro’s Joel Whittinghill on fiddle and mandolin. Their debut album, Drive Time, includes a collection of traditional tunes and original work.
The MacRae Brothers’ old-time country “brother duets,” featuring close harmony accompanied by guitar and mandolin, are modeled after those of the Monroe Brothers, the Delmore Brothers and the Louvin Brothers. Following the same tradition as their predecessors, the MacRaes regularly share their “brotherly” music with friends and fans all over Northern California at bluegrass festivals, concerts, private parties and restaurants.
The group’s performance on Jubilee was the last to feature the late Jake Quesenberry, a Kentucky native, on guitar and vocals. The other MacRae brother, Matt Dudman, is on mandolin and vocals.
Jubilee is a KET production, distributed to public television stations nationwide. The series is directed by Nick Helton and produced by Duncan Hart. Nancy Carpenter is executive producer. More information about Jubilee is available at www.ket.org/jubilee.
