Constitutional author and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer is interviewed by NBC News justice correspondent Pete Williams on the next edition of Kentucky Author Forum Presents. The program airs Thursday, June 5 at 10/9 p.m. CT on KET1 and Monday, June 9 at 10/9 p.m. CT on KET2.
Breyer, who was appointed by President Clinton, became the 108th Supreme Court Justice in 1994. He discusses his book Active Liberty: Interpreting Our Democratic Constitution, which deals with constitutional interpretation and citizen participation in the judicial process. Breyer, who is known for his pragmatic approach to constitutional law, is generally associated with the more liberal side of the court. A former law professor and lecturer at Harvard Law School, he specialized in administrative law, authoring a number of influential textbooks that remain in use today.
Williams, of NBC News, has been covering the Justice Department and the Supreme Court since 1993. He appeared on a previous program in the Kentucky Author Forum Presents series interviewing Justice Sandra Day O’Connor in 2003.
