Louisville Life explores community center; meets locals from Malaysia, Argentina; visits Ireland

For Release: 2008-05-19 12:57:00

Louisville Life travels to Dublin to find out what the Irish capital city has in common with Louisville and then heads home again to meet Louivillians from around the world. The program, hosted by Candyce Clifft, airs Thursday, June 5 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT; Friday, June 6 at 4/3 p.m. CT; and Sunday, June 8 at noon/11 a.m. CT on KET2.

First, Louisville Life takes a trip to Ireland with Greater Louisville Inc., Louisville’s chamber of commerce and economic development agency. The group learns about Dublin’s recent economic boom and how Louisville could follow its example. In the space of a few decades, Ireland has transformed into one of the world’s most successful high-tech economies and technologically advanced countries.

Back home, Louisville Life visits the Americana Community Center, a non-profit organization that provides a spectrum of services for a diverse population, including classes in English as a second language and citizenship for adults, and after-school programs and clubs for children.

Next, the program explores Chef Peng Looi’s restaurants, Asiatique and the August Moon Chinese Bistro. In 1987, Looi, originally from Malaysia, opened August Moon, combining Chinese cuisine with Malaysian influences. Six years later, Looi introduced the upscale casual Asiatique, where he serves his own unique interpretation of Pacific Rim dishes.

Then, Candyce welcomes native Argentinean and local business owner Claudia Peralta-Mudd. Peralta-Mudd became a United States citizen in 1997 and joined the Louisville Metro Office for International Affairs in 2000 as an international program specialist. Today, she and her husband own Caffe Classico, a European-style coffee shop.

Finally, Louisville Life discovers what may be the oldest surviving memorial of the Civil War standing in the Cave Hill Cemetery.

Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is content producer; associate producer is Kelli Brodersen.
