Renee welcomes sculptor Garry R. Bibbs on the next Connections with Renee Shaw. Bibbs, a Louisville native, is a professor of sculpture at the University of Kentucky. The program airs Saturday, June 14 at 3/2 p.m. CT on KET1 and Sunday, June 15 at 11:30/10:30 a.m. CT on KET2.
Bibbs discusses his influences and inspirations for creating his large metal sculptures. Kentuckians may recognize some of his pieces, including “Fire Fighter’s Flame Memorial” at the Louisville Fire Department headquarters and “Life, Family and Good Health” at the University of Kentucky’s Kentucky Clinic.
Bibbs also talks about his time studying with internationally renowned sculptor Richard Hunt at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and his extensive exhibition history, including showings at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., the Ruschman Art Gallery in Indianapolis and the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati.
The artist goes on to discuss his work as a member of the Pew Civic Entrepreneur Initiative, a Lexington coalition group whose goal is to confront and solve issues relevant to the community on race relations and leadership.
Connections with Renee Shaw is a KET production, produced by Renee Shaw and Carolyn Gwinn. More information about Connections, including streaming video, is available at www.ket.org/connections.
