The next edition of Kentucky Life highlights segments produced by students from Asbury College and Morehead State University. The program, hosted by Dave Shuffett, airs Saturday, June 28 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1; Sunday, June 29 at 4:30/3:30 p.m. CT on KET1; and Sunday, June 29 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET2.
First, a segment produced by Asbury student Lauren Claus visits Kelley Family Farms in Lexington. The family-run business has moved away from tobacco farming to new sources of income, including strawberries, pumpkins and an enormous corn maze.
Next, MSU’s Ben McCoy follows Civil War reenactors preparing for their roles at the Battle of Mill Springs. The participants attend “reenactment school” where they learn how to portray historically accurate characters by avoiding discussion of current events and staying in character, among other techniques.
Finally, Kentucky Life visits the annual summer Highland Renaissance Festival in Eminence, Ky. The festival includes artisans, live jousting, jugglers, dancers, acrobats and actors portraying life as it was during the 14th century. Themed weekends abound, including “Masquerade,” “Celtic,” “Lords and Ladies Romance” and “Tournament” weekends.
Kentucky Life is a KET production, produced by Joy Flynn. Segment producers are Claus, Jessica Gibbs and McCoy. Some Kentucky Life programs are available for on-demand videostream viewing at www.ket.org/kentuckylife.
