High Country on Jubilee

High Country, one of the West Coast’s premier traditional bluegrass bands, performs on the next edition of Jubilee. The program, taped at the River of Music Party in Owensboro last summer, airs Wednesday, July 2 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1 and Saturday, July 5 at 11/10 p.m. CT on KET2.

Strongly influenced by classic styles, High Country’s repertoire offers a mix of powerful standards and original songs. The band has toured extensively in the United States and Europe, and has played many of the major bluegrass festivals, including Bill Monroe’s Bean Blossom Bluegrass Festival, where they were the first West Coast band to be invited to perform.

The group’s lineup includes Butch Waller (who founded the group in 1968) on mandolin and lead vocals, Bob Waller on guitar, Larry Cohea on banjo, Jim Mintun on dobro, Tom Bekeny on fiddle and Glenn Dauphin on bass. High Country’s latest CD is titled The Earthquake.
