The next edition of Kentucky Life features a century-old family-run business, an eclectic zoo and an artist who creates unusual renderings of fish. The program, hosted by Dave Shuffett, airs Saturday, July 5 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1; Sunday, July 6 at 4:30/3:30 p.m. CT on KET1; and Sunday, July 6 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET2.

In the 1800s, William Henry Cox made his way from Pennsylvania to Rockcastle County, where he began a blacksmith, wagon-building and hardware business. After more than a century, Cox Hardware is still family-run, offering the personal service and eclectic selection of items that can’t be found in today’s superstores.

Next, Kentucky Life visits Henry’s Ark in Prospect, where exotic animals roam free and interact with visitors. The zoo is home to a diverse group of animals, including cows, goats, chickens, possum, llamas and Zeedonk, a zebra/donkey hybrid.

Then, the program profiles Ken Roberts, a former graphic artist with a successful career in California who retired to Western Kentucky several years ago. Now, Roberts uses material he finds near his Trigg County home on Kentucky Lake to create unique and humorous models of fish.

Kentucky Life is a KET production, produced by Joy Flynn. Valerie Trimble is segment producer for this program. Some Kentucky Life programs are now available for on-demand videostream viewing at www.ket.org/kentuckylife.
