Louisville Life meets sculptor and native Louisvillian Ed Hamilton and the new head of Louisville’s public radio network, Donovan Reynolds. The program, hosted by Candyce Clifft, also features the longtime executive chef of the Brown Hotel and visits a haven for Coca-Cola lovers. It airs Thursday, July 10 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT; Friday, July 11 at 4/3 p.m. CT; and Sunday, July 13 at noon/11 a.m. CT on KET2. First, Louisville Life visits Hamilton, whose latest work is a statue of Abraham Lincoln. The memorial, which will be located at Louisville’s Waterfront Park, is scheduled for unveiling in 2009. Hamilton’s most recent public work, the “Spirit of Freedom,” a tribute to the black soldiers and sailors of the Civil War, stands in Washington D.C. and has received worldwide acclaim. Next, the program meets Chef Joe Castro, who spent 14 years as the executive chef of the English Grill at the Brown Hotel. In his new role with General Electric, Castro trains architects, designers and contractors on GE’s Monogram line of appliances. Louisville Life catches up with Castro at the Monogram Experience Center, where he prepares meals with guests in a professional culinary studio. Then, Louisville Life travels to the Schmidt Museum of Coca-Cola Memorabilia in Elizabethtown. Started by the late Bill Schmidt and his wife, Jan, (Coca-Cola enthusiasts and bottling plant owners), the museum displays antique Coca-Cola delivery vehicles, vending machines, toys, signs and a 1950s-style soda fountain, complete with Cokes, snacks and sandwiches. Next, Candyce interviews Reynolds, who became president of the Public Radio Partnership (now Louisville Public Media) last August. Reynolds, a public broadcasting veteran, managed both television and radio at Michigan Public Media. During that time, the radio audience grew from 100,000 to more than 450,000. He discusses his plans for the future of public radio in Louisville. Finally, Louisville Life looks at the history of the Louisville Palace. Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is content producer; associate producer is Kelli Brodersen.
