The annual Fancy Farm picnic, hosted by a small Roman Catholic church in Graves County, has been the site of food, fun and political oratory for more than 120 years. The menu usually includes several varieties of Western Kentucky barbecue, with traditional fixings and speeches by candidates for statewide or national office. Some 15,000 people attend the politically charged event –– the unofficial kickoff of fall campaigning in Kentucky politics.
Fancy Farm 2008: Pork, Pie and Politics is a KET production, produced by Renee Shaw and directed by Carl Babcock.
