Dr. Randy Dunn, president of Murray State University, is the next guest on One to One with Bill Goodman, airing Sunday, Aug. 17 at 2/1 p.m. CT on KET1 and Tuesday, Aug. 19 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT on KET2.
Dunn first relays his extensive background in education. Prior to his role at MSU, he served as a teacher, principal, superintendent and college professor in Illinois, and as a professor at Memphis State University.
Dunn also talks about his impressions of Kentucky before his arrival, including Kentucky’s national reputation as a leader in education reform, Murray State’s consistently high level of quality, and the growing momentum of what he refers to as “quality of life factors” –– health, arts, culture and economic development –– around the Commonwealth.
The university president then discusses the sense of community on the MSU campus. He says that blogs, clubs, ministries and engaging professors provide opportunities for students to feel connected and form lasting relationships with the university. Dunn claims that one of the major challenges he faces is retaining the strong sense of community while significantly expanding enrollment.
Finally, Dunn discusses his desire to use the influence of the university to improve the lives of all Kentuckians, not just prepare MSU students for careers.
One to One with Bill Goodman is a KET production, produced by Goodman and Cindy Asher. Following the broadcast, One to One is available for on-demand videostream viewing at www.ket.org/onetoone and podcasting at www.ket.org/rss.
