Where the River Bends brings KET two regional Emmy Awards
KET has been awarded two regional Emmy Awards from the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for Where the River Bends: A History of Northern Kentucky.

Producers Marsha Hellard, Charlee Heaton, Tom Bickel, Mary Marshall Hester and Craig Cornwell received Emmys in the Historical Documentary category, and videographer Frank Simkonis received an Emmy in Photography.

Narrated by Nick Clooney, Where the River Bends explores the social and historical events that contributed to the evolution of Northern Kentucky, beginning some 100,000 years ago with the shifting of the Ohio River to its current course. The program follows the area’s history through the arrival of Native Americans, European explorers and settlers, the Civil War, Reconstruction, the Depression and up to the present day. Where the River Bends is the first extensive documentary to focus on Kentucky’s Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties.

The documentary received an overwhelming statewide response during KET’s 2007 TeleFund, the network’s major annual pledge drive. Viewers made it the most successful TeleFund premiere of a local history documentary in KET’s nearly 40-year history.

“The prestige of the Emmy Award is but further recognition of the commitment KET has to telling Kentucky’s story,” said KET Executive Director Malcolm Wall. “Our wonderful staff is devoted to creating exceptional local programming.”
