Professors of Bluegrass
Professors of Bluegrass

The next edition of Jubilee features a group of Yale professors who took their love of bluegrass from the classroom to the stage. The program, taped at the River of Music Party in Owensboro last summer, airs Saturday, Sept. 6 at 11/10 p.m. CT on KET2 and Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1.

Led by Dean Peter Salovey and psychology professor Kelly Brownell, the Professors of Bluegrass first came together in 1990. An exciting addition to the campus community, the original lineup lasted for a short while until a new incarnation formed, enjoying great popularity in the region until disbanding again in 1999. Now, thanks to returning members, new additions and a resurgence of the passion for bluegrass music, the Professors of Bluegrass have returned to the stage.

The Professors of Bluegrass’ new lineup includes founding member Salovey on bass and vocals, Katie Scharf on fiddle and vocals, mandolin player Craig Harwood, Sten Havumaki and Josh Viertel on guitar and vocals, and banjo player Oscar Hills.

Jubilee is a KET production, distributed to public television stations nationwide. The series is directed by Nick Helton and produced by Duncan Hart. Nancy Carpenter is executive producer. More information about Jubilee is available at www.ket.org/jubilee.
