Family-owned Huber Orchard and Winery, gardener Jon Carloftis on next Louisville Life

For Release: 2008-09-22 11:13:00

The next edition of Louisville Life features Huber Orchard and Winery, nationally renowned gardener Jon Carloftis and more. The program airs Thursday, Oct. 9 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT on KET2; Saturday, Oct. 11 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET1; and Sunday, Oct. 12 at noon/11 a.m. CT on KET2.

The Huber family began farming in the U.S. in 1843 when German immigrant Simon Huber settled in Starlight, Ind. In 1978, the family opened the doors of Huber's Orchard and Winery. The farm has remained a family business, and Louisville Life visits the seventh generation of Hubers as they manage more than 550 acres of farmland, growing fruits, vegetables, Christmas trees, pumpkins and grapes and running a children's park, market, winery, gift shop and more.

Louisville Life also spotlights Westport Village, Louisville's newest shopping and dining pavilion, where gourmet coffee, seafood, pub fare and sushi are just a few of the offerings.

Viewers meet Kentucky native and garden er extraordinaire Carloftis. He earned his reputation creating rooftop gardens in New York and went on to open a home and garden store with his mother. The author of several books about gardening, his work has been featured in House Beautiful and Better Homes and Gardens and on Good Morning America and HGTV.

Then, the program heads to the Scribner House in New Albany, Ind., which is the oldest surviving building of any kind in New Albany. It was built in 1814 by Joel Scribner, one of the city's founders, and was the first frame house built in the brand-new river town.

And, Candyce interviews Karen Morrison, president and CEO of Gilda's Club Louisville. Named for comedian Gilda Radner, who died of ovarian cancer, the non-profit organization offers social and emotional support for adults and children with cancer and their family and friends.

Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is producer/writer; associate producer is Kelli Brodersen.
