KET is celebrating four decades of educating and inspiring Kentuckians through television. Kentucky's statewide public television network, which went on the air on Sept. 23, 1968, is marking the occasion with two new productions, a One to One interview with founding executive director O. Leonard Press and an anniversary special that recounts the network's history and explores its future.

"KET is honored to have been a part of Kentucky's educational and cultural history for the past 40 years," said Malcolm Wall, KET's current executive director. "And, we look forward to serving the Commonwealth for years to come."

Throughout its history, KET has been dedicated to enhancing education through media. Some educational milestones include producing distance learning courses for high school students and the production of the first GED on TV series in the nation. Today, KET EncycloMedia and Arts Toolkits give the Commonwealth's teachers and students access to a wealth of multimedia resources.

The network has also had a long commitment to covering public affairs in the Commonwealth as well as showcasing the people and places that make Kentucky special. From Comment on Kentucky and Kentucky Tonight to Kentucky Life and Louisville Life, KET focuses on programs by, for and about Kentuckians.

As KET moves forward, it harnesses new technologies to advance its mission. "By providing even more purpose-built educational content and HD programs that explore Kentucky, KET will expand its commitment to make our Commonwealth stronger," Wall said.

Press discusses KET's mission, history and service to the Commonwealth as well as his new book, The KET Story: A Personal Account on One to One with Bill Goodman, airing Sunday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m./noon CT on KET1 and Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT on KET2.

And, KET: 40 Years of Exploration takes a look at KET's history and its future with interviews from Wall, Press and past executive director Virginia Gaines Fox . The program, airing Thursday, Oct. 16 at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET1, also features archival footage of classic Kentucky programs.

One to One with Bill Goodman is a KET production, produced by Goodman and Cindy Asher. KET: 40 Years of Exploration is a KET production, produced by Tom Bickel.
