The next edition of Kentucky Life goes from the quiet life at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill to life in the fast lane at the Mountain Park Dragway. Viewers also meet a Kentucky woman who left her law career to become an artist. The program, hosted by Dave Shuffett, airs Saturday, Oct. 18 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1; Sunday, Oct. 19 at 4:30/3:30 p.m. CT on KET1; and Sunday, Oct. 19 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET2.First, Kentucky Life visits America’s largest restored Shaker community, which includes 34 carefully restored buildings and 3,000 acres of preserved farmland. Viewers meet descendants of former Shakers and residents of the pre-restoration village, some of whom returned as interpreters at this National Historic Landmark. They recount family connections and memories, and discuss what it’s like to visit and work at a place that intimately shaped their lives.
Next, Kentucky Life races to the Mountain Park Dragway, which opened in 1963 in Clay City. The family-owned business is now one of the main tourist attractions in the region. For 45 years, the Kennon family has been operating the racetrack for cars, motorcycles and dragsters.
Finally, viewers meet McCracken County’s Beverly Hayden, who gave up her law career in order to pursue her artistic talents. After quitting her job practicing commercial bankruptcy law and litigation, Hayden went to photography school in Montana. Today, she travels all over the country participating in fine arts shows and creating unique photographs.
