The next Kentucky Life tastes genuine Kentucky cooking, watches bluebirds and meets furniture maker Eric Scholtens, who sees the potential for furniture in tree limbs. The program, hosted by Dave Shuffett, airs Saturday, Oct. 25 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1; Sunday, Oct. 26 at 4:30/3:30 p.m. CT on KET1; and Sunday, Oct. 26 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET2.
First, chef Bob Perry, U. K. College of Agriculture Food Systems Initiative director, makes a delicious four- course dinner with more than 20 Kentucky products, from ubatuba peppers grown at U.K. South Farms to Valentine's " Bourbon Ball " ice cream. Perry demonstrates why gourmet chefs and everyday cooks prefer locally grown products.
Next, viewers meet Bob and Judy Peak, volunteers with the Land Between the Lakes Association, who have a passion for bluebirds. There are more than 200 bluebird boxes in the Land Between the Lakes area, and the Peaks take one weekend a month, seven months a year, to monitor all of them and record the number of eggs and chicks they find, along with other data. This segment also visits the bison prairie, campgrounds and planetarium at the Land Between the Lakes.
Then, Dave and his canine sidekick, Charlie, introduce Kentucky Life's newest Paw Pals, sharing photos of viewers' beloved dogs, cats and other animal friends.
Finally, the program travels to Daviess County, where Scholtens creates what he calls "functional art furniture." His wooden chairs, tables, benches and other pieces reflect their natural origins.
