A romantic western, a dark film-noir, a musical romp and a crime drama kick off a new round of KET Movie Classics in November. Each film airs Saturday at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET1 and encores the following Friday at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET2.First, John Wayne and Gail Russell star in the 1947 classic western Angel and the Badman. Russell plays Penelope Worth, a Quaker girl who nurses the notorious gunman Quirt Evans (Wayne) back to health. Angel and the Badman, the first film produced by Wayne, airs Nov. 1 and 7.
Then, Kirk Douglas makes his film debut in The Strange Love of Martha Ivers. Barbara Stanwyck also stars in t he 1946 film-noir as Martha, an heiress whose childhood sweetheart returns to town years after a brutal murder drove them apart. The film's writer, John Patrick, was nominated for an Oscar. The Strange Love of Martha Ivers airs Nov. 8 and 14.
Next, Road to Bali, airing Nov. 15 at 21, stars Bing Crosby, Bob Hope and Dorothy Lamour. The song-and-dance men escape various marriage proposals, dive for treasure and compete for a beautiful princess. Of the seven "Road" movies, this is the only one filmed in amazing Technicolor.
Finally, the November KET Movie Classics wrap up with Kansas City Confidential. The crime drama, staring John Payne and Preston Foster, airs Nov. 22 and 28. A framed man sets out to discover who set him up and why. Viewers should expect standard noir quips like "What's waiting for you, Harris? The chair, the gas chamber or just a rope?"
