The next edition of Kentucky Life features a plantation home built in the 1800s, a training facility for race horses and Chrisman Mill Vineyards, a winery located in Nicholasville. The program, hosted by Dave Shuffett, airs Saturday, Nov. 8 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1; Sunday, Nov. 9 at 4:30/3:30 p.m. CT on KET1; and Sunday, Nov. 9 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET2.
First, Dave meets Butch and Mary Jo Bramel, owners of Bramel's Hickory Hill Nursery and Plantation in Mason County. The Bramels give Dave a tour of the plantation home, which was built in 1861 and has been in their family for five generations. They stop along the way to point out furniture and other antiques original to the home, and Butch hints about possible supernatural elements. Viewers also visit the carriage house and tool house, both original to the farm, and learn about the Bramels' modern enterprise -- a successful, full-service plant nursery.
Next, Kentucky Life visits Lexington's Thoroughbred Center, a training track for race horses. General Manager Jim Pendergest discusses the process of getting horses ready to race from basic workouts to leaving the starting gate. The center is open year-round and offers behind-the-scenes tours to the public. Pendergest also talks about the importance of the horse-racing industry in Kentucky.
Finally, the program heads to Chrisman Mill Vineyards, where owners Chris and Denise Nelson explain how their passion for winemaking grew into a vineyard that produces 8,200 gallons of wine a year. Visitors tour the vineyard and stay for the authentic Tuscan-style dinners. The Nelsons enjoy creating unique wine flavors, showcasing obscure grapes and drawing attention to wines made in the Commonwealth.
