Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet Secretary J. Michael Brown sits down with Renee Shaw on the next edition of Connections to discuss issues in his cabinet's domain, ranging from correctional operations to online gambling. As head of the second largest agency in state government, Brown explains his responsibilities and his hopes for the 2009 legislative session. The program airs Friday, Nov. 14 at 4/3 p.m. CT on KET2 and Sunday, Nov. 16 at 1:30/12:30 p.m. CT on KET1.
Brown, who has a long-standing career in public service, shares how his background in the military as well as his law degree from the University of Louisville influenced his current position in statewide office. His experience in the courts, including a term as a judge in Jefferson County, prepared him for his involvement with the Kentucky correctional system. With the population of inmates in Kentucky prisons on the rise, Brown discusses the strategies the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet intends to implement during the 2009 General Assembly.
Secretary Brown also addresses the online gambling dispute which has become a leading political issue in Kentucky. He highlights the ways in which his cabinet is cracking down on illegal gambling sites, as well as his hope that his cabinet will receive further aid from the Kentucky legislature to regulate online gambling.
In addition, Brown addresses his intention to increase state police ranks throughout the Commonwealth and other planned improvements to Kentucky law enforcement.
