On the next edition of One to One with Bill Goodman, Crit Luallen, Kentucky auditor of public accounts, discusses the statewide office and the role she plays in monitoring government spending. The program airs Sunday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m./noon CT on KET1 and Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT on KET2.Luallen offers her opinion on the current economic crisis facing the nation, relating the events on Wall Street to her role as auditor. Luallen, who says she has uncovered millions of dollars in government fraud and questionable expenditures during her time in office, discusses the value of monitoring when and where taxes are being spent in the Commonwealth. She shares the ways in which her office has successfully evaluated the efficiency of tax-funded programs, known as performance auditing, and recommended plans for improving the programs.
Luallen comments on the challenges she has faced as Kentucky auditor of public accounts, including accusations that she favors her own political party while monitoring government spending. She also discusses a disheartening aspect of her job: uncovering corruption in the management of taxpayers' dollars.
Luallen also shares a bit of her personal life, including what it's like to be a seventh generation Kentuckian. She also responds to inquiries about her future plans in Kentucky government.
