Host Dave Shuffett visits the Casey County Apple Festival, explores a restored World War II bomber and talks with a renowned Kentucky jazz pianist on the next edition of Kentucky Life, airing Saturday, Nov. 22 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1; Sunday, Nov. 23 at 4:30/3:30 p.m. CT on KET1; and Sunday, Nov. 23 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET2. In addition, the program features a special segment on the University of Kentucky's "Fabulous Five" basketball team of the 1940s.First, Dave travels to Casey County to try the world's largest version of America's favorite dessert, a 10-foot apple pie weighing approximately 3,000 pounds. Each year the Apple Festival celebrates the delicious concoction by serving thousands of people out of a single pan that has to be lifted in and out of a giant oven with a forklift.
Next, Dave meets members of the Liberty Foundation, a group dedicated to preserving aviation history and the memory of World War II veterans. The foundation has restored t he Liberty Belle, a WWII B-16 bomber. The Belle's passengers get a taste of what it was like to fly a WWII mission through this hands-on history lesson.
Dave also visits with Kentucky native and jazz pianist Beegie Adair, who has made a living from her love for music. Adair recounts her life's musical journey, including performing with Chet Atkins, Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash.
Finally, this edition of Kentucky Life features a segment on the University of Kentucky's "Fabulous Five," the basketball team that brought the college victories in the NIT and NCAA and a gold medal to the United States at the 1948 Olympic Games.
