The next Louisville Life features the Southern Foodways Alliance, the Weber Group's imaginative theme-park creations, the history of the oldest Masonic home in North America and more. The program, hosted by Candyce Clifft, airs Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT on KET2; Saturday, Nov. 22 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET1; and Sunday, Nov. 23 at noon/11 a.m. CT on KET2.A recognized authority on southern food and culture, Southern Foodways Alliance explains its oral history project -- an effort to uncover and document the stories behind the food -- and why the River City is a must-visit locale.
Next, Louisville Life profiles the Weber Group, a company that builds imaginative structures for theme parks, hotels and even miniature golf courses across the country. This company, which got its start at Kentucky Kingdom, helps imagine, design and build things like the two-story high wolves at the Great Wolf Lodge chain and water amusements at the Louisville Zoo. They tell Louisville Life how they got started and describe some of the challenges of creating physical interpretations of their clients' dreams.
Then, Louisville Life visits the Olmsted and Masonic Home in Louisville. Founded in 1867 as the Masonic Widows and Orphans Home and Infirmary, the facility is located on a large park-like setting designed by the famed landscape architectural firm, the Olmsted Brothers. Viewers meet Fran Athington, an Eastern Kentucky native who lived in the orphanage. She recently returned to the site and talks about her memories of the place that is now commonly used for weddings and receptions.
Back at the studio, Louisvillian Charles Matthews, international Big Brother of the Year in 2007, talks to Candyce about Big Brother Big Sisters of Kentuckiana.
Finally, Louisville Life explores Elvis Presley's family ties to Louisville.
Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is producer/writer; associate producer is Kelli Brodersen.
