Marking the centenary of the birth of longtime Masterpiece Theatre host Alistair Cooke, Masterpiece presents a revealing portrait of one of the most celebrated broadcasters of the 20th century. “The Unseen Alistair Cooke” airs Sunday, Nov. 23 at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET1 and Thursday, Nov. 27 at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET2.The special presents never-before-seen extraordinary 8mm home movies shot by Cooke from 1933 onwards, charting his exploration of America, his passions and his relationships with stars such as Paulette Goddard and Charlie Chaplin.
Told in his own voice and through interviews with family and close friends — including Masterpiece executive producer Rebecca Eaton — the program is a chance to see America as Cooke first saw it: the raw material for a lifetime of journalism.
Masterpiece is presented by WGBH/Boston. More information about KET programming and education services, as well as how to support KET, can be found at www.ket.org.
