Through KET, quality programming is as close as one’s television set. And during WinterPledge 2008, Nov. 29 through Dec. 7, viewers have the opportunity to help KET carry out its mission of guiding all Kentuckians on an exciting and fulfilling journey through life — to literally explore Kentucky, and the world.During this special season, KET presents how-to specials, engaging documentaries and an extensive array of concerts designed to appeal to every taste. A new concert by the international sensations in Celtic Woman: The Greatest Journey — Holiday Special airs Monday, Dec. 1 and Saturday, Dec. 6 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1 and Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET2. This program is the essential collection of Celtic Woman’s most beloved and memorable songs intertwined with stunning scenic images of Ireland.
In addition, this year’s music lineup also includes John Denver: A Song’s Best Friend, The Gospel Music of Johnny Cash, Great Performances “Pavarotti — A Life in Seven Arias,” American Soundtrack: Doo Wop’s Greatest Hits, Love Train: The Sound of Philadelphia, Andre Rieu: Live in Vienna and The Righteous Brothers 21st Anniversary Celebration, to name just a few.
Other favorites during WinterPledge include a KET production tracing the life of a great American leader through his Kentucky roots in Lincoln: ‘I, too, am a Kentuckian.’ and a look at the daily lives of the British royals in Monarchy: The Royal Family at Work.
“After four decades on the air, KET continues to provide high-quality programming and services to the citizens of the Commonwealth,” notes Michele Ripley, president of the Commonwealth Fund for KET. “Serving citizens is what makes public media more relevant and essential than ever before. Individuals can make a difference in their communities by giving through KET to impact the people of Kentucky.”
Viewers who call with a pledge may request, as a thank-you gift, tickets to concerts several WinterPledge artists have scheduled in Kentucky. These include Celtic Woman concerts Feb. 24 and 25 at the Palace in Louisville, co-presented by the Alltech Festival; Yanni Voices June 27 at Louisville’s Freedom Hall; and a Sesame Street Live show in March 2009 at the Brown Theatre in Louisville.
During WinterPledge, viewers may call 1-800-866-0366 to pledge a contribution to KET. This gift allows KET to continue to deliver programming that provides insights, discoveries, issues, culture, excitement and entertainment to communities throughout our state — as well as provide a safe haven for the Commonwealth’s youngest citizens through award-winning PBS children’s programming.
