The next Kentucky Life looks at sculptor David Rogers' "Big Bugs" exhibit, a 15-year-old Kentucky singer who recounts her experience performing at the Grand Ole Opry and glassblower Michelle Weston. The program, hosted by Dave Shuffett, airs Saturday, Jan. 3 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1; Sunday, Jan. 4 at 4:30/3:30 p.m. CT on KET1; and Sunday, Jan. 4 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET2.First, Kentucky Life meets Rogers at Owensboro's Western Kentucky Botanical Garden for a walk through his "Big Bugs" exhibit, featuring huge sculptures of a spider, ladybug, dragonfly, praying mantis and more. Rogers describes his process of creating gigantic sculptures of insects and dinosaurs using natural materials. He also discusses his desire to inspire people to value their local botanical gardens and nature itself.
Next, Harrison County teen Jordan Leigh Young talks about her music, her performance at the Grand Ole Opry and her family's support. A singer of country and gospel music, Jordan also plays banjo, raises show goats and competes in beauty pageants.
Finally, glassblower Weston brings Kentucky Life into her Madison County studio and store. Inspired by the reflection of light on moving water, Weston creates designs with continuous lines and vibrant colors. She shares her tried-and-true method of getting nervous customers to handle her delicate-looking creations.
