Lady's Slipper Orchid
Lady's Slipper Orchid

Kentucky Life stops at Lynn's Paradise Café, an eclectic, one-of-a-kind restaurant located in the heart of Louisville's Highlands neighborhood; rides with Anderson Ferry, the last ferry business remaining out of dozens that once served the northern Kentucky area; and discovers a fascinating and threatened species of wildflowers, Lady's Slipper Orchids. The program, hosted by Dave Shuffett, airs Saturday, Jan. 10 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1; Sunday, Jan. 11 at 4:30/3:30 p.m. CT on KET1; and Sunday, Jan. 11 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET2.

First, Dave sits down with Lynn Winter, owner and operator of Lynn's Paradise Café. Winter talks about how she got her start in the restaurant business; the amusing contests and events Lynn's is known for, including the popular Ugly Lamp competition; the sense of community she promote s at the café; and her other job as a "happiness coach."

Then, Kentucky Life takes a ride with Paul Anderson, owner of Anderson Ferry in Boone County. Anderson discusses the history of the 191-year-old business and describes the operation of his three-boat fleet.

Finally, the program travels to Harlan County, where author and photographer Tom Barnes and Pine Mountain Settlement School's Ben Begley enjoy the delicate and showy Lady's Slipper Orchids.
