Local reading, cooking, culture on Louisville Life

For Release: 2008-12-24 11:03:00

The next edition of Louisville Life looks at two locally produced women's magazines, meets chef and cooking instructor Mary Wheatly, visits the Speed Art Museum and more. The program, hosted by Candyce Clifft, airs Thursday, Jan. 22 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT on KET2; Saturday, Jan. 24 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET1; and Sunday, Jan. 25 at noon/11 a.m. CT on KET2.

First, the program spotlights two Louisville magazines: Today's Woman and Underwired. Today's Woman started publishing in 1991, focusing on articles about power, style and wellness. Underwired, which celebrated its second anniversary this fall, also targets women, accepting submissions of personal essays and artwork. Underwired's goal is to support women in "their pursuit of meaningful work, creative passion and other spirited adventures."

Next, viewers meet Wheatley, a Louisville native, whose service, Cook with Mary, offers cooking instruction for individuals and groups, adults and children. Mary graduated from Sullivan University with a degree in culinary arts after many years in the health-care industry.

Then, Louisville Life visits the Speed Art Museum. Established in 1927, the Speed is Kentucky's oldest and largest art museum.

Back at the studio, Candyce sits down with Anne Jewell, executive director of the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory. She discusses the business's upcoming 125th anniversary, renovations and the new "Museum Row on Main" initiative.

Finally, the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, headquartered in Louisville, shares some of its collection, commemorating the people and events of the Revolutionary War.

Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is producer/writer; associate producer is Kelli Brodersen. More information about Louisville Life, including streaming video, is available at www.ket.org/loulife.
