The National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA) recently honored 23 public broadcasters, including KET, with awards. KET's documentary Lincoln: 'I, too, am a Kentuckian.' was recognized as 2008's finest biographical documentary.The program, hosted by Dave Shuffett and produced and directed by Joy Flynn, premiered last spring as part of the kick-off of the two-year Lincoln bicentennial celebration. It examines the many Kentucky people and places that profoundly influenced America's 16th president.
Calling the program "very educational and entertaining," a panel of industry experts praised Lincoln: 'I, too, am a Kentuckian.' for outstanding videography and consistent technical excellence, with one judge adding, "I'm glad KET did this in high-definition. The beauty of the countryside and different settings really pop."
"KET is honored to be recognized at this year's NETA awards," said Malcolm Wall, KET's executive director. "Congratulations to KET's staff, who have again demonstrated their commitment to telling Kentucky's story."
Lincoln: 'I, too, am a Kentuckian.' encores Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1. It is produced in part by a grant from the Kentucky Historical Society and the Kentucky Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission.
In all, NETA awarded 39 trophies in the areas of program production, promotion, outreach and instructional media. The celebratory presentation was part of NETA's annual conference, held this year in Tampa, Fla.
