In response to the recent Congressional action that will allow broadcasters the option to delay their digital TV transition, KET has decided that it will turn off analog transmission on April 15 and broadcast exclusively in digital from that point forward on all of its 16 transmitters statewide. KET currently broadcasts in both analog and digital.KET’s decision was heavily influenced by the damages wrought by the recent winter storm and the fact that much of the state continues to recover from its effects.
“As people continue to restore order to their lives following the devastating weather we’ve recently experienced, we wanted to give people one less thing to worry about right now,” said KET Executive Director Malcolm Wall. “We were prepared for the original February 17th deadline, but hopefully an extra 60 days will help those not yet ready for the digital transition.”
Additionally, more than 2 million households nationwide are on a waiting list for DTV converter box coupons. An extension of KET’s analog service will allow those waiting for coupons in Kentucky more time to receive those coupons and apply them toward the purchase of a converter box.
KET has many resources to help viewers make the transition to digital. A toll-free helpline is available at 1-866-291-8189, and guides, frequently asked questions and helpful links are available online at www.ket.org/dtv.
More information about KET programming and education services, as well as how to support KET, can be found at www.ket.org.
