Pressroom Search:
Exploits of secret agents focus of dramatic series MI-5

For Release: 2009-03-02 11:42:00

They lie to their friends, they lie to their lovers, they lie to their own families. Like the CIA in America, however, Britain's MI-5 brings its operatives into mortal danger on a regular basis in order to keep the peace and protect millions of others.

Their stories serve as the backdrop for the exciting dramatic series, MI-5, detailing the daring exploits of section B, a small group of top-flight agents in the counter-terrorism division. The series begins Wednesday, March 18 at 10/9 p.m. CT on KET2.

Tied closely to events happening around the globe, the stories interweave high-tech, covert plans of action with the complications that such highly pressured jobs bring to interpersonal relationships -- outside and inside of the department. In the first program, an MI-5 source passes on information that 20 bombs have gone astray between Ireland and the UK. Within minutes a car bomb explodes, instantly killing a female doctor and fatally injuring her daughter.

In subsequent programs, the teams bug a house belonging to the owner of an Essex waste management company who MI-5 suspect to be involved in provoking race riots across the country. And in his own home, one of the agents faces extra pressure as it becomes increasingly difficult to keep his job a secret.

MI-5 is produced by the BBC. More information about KET programming and education services, as well as how to support KET, can be found at www.ket.org.
