Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street, joins forces with two of today's biggest stars to present a primetime special helping military families adjust to their fluctuating circumstances. Coming Home: Military Families Cope with Change airs Wednesday, April 1 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET2 and KET HD and Tuesday, April 7 at 9:30/8:30 p.m. CT on KET1.Featuring Queen Latifah, John Mayer and Elmo, the special tells stories of service members who return home with injuries, visible and invisible, and explores the heroic struggles their families face in discovering a way of finding a "new normal." It also salutes the extraordinary courage and strength of these military families and offers the general public a powerful glimpse into what they often must endure.
Sesame Workshop has spent the past two years creating outreach materials to help military families with young children cope with deployments, homecomings and changes.
The Talk, Listen, Connect Initiative provides support and offers significant resources for military families with young children experiencing the effects of deployments, multiple deployments or when a parent returns home changed due to a combat-related injury. The materials consist of a bilingual (English/Spanish) multimedia outreach kit with DVDs for children and adults starring the Muppets from Sesame Street, and print materials for children, parents and caregivers and facilitators. More information on the Talk, Listen, Connect Initiative may be found at sesameworkshop.org/initiatives/emotion/tlc/.
Coming Home: Military Families Cope with Change is a production of Sesame Workshop, Worldwide Pants Incorporated and Lookalike Productions. More information about KET programming and education services, as well as how to support KET, can be found at www.ket.org.
