On the next One to One with Bill Goodman, Jennifer Swanberg, director of the University of Kentucky's Institute for Workplace Innovation, discusses the importance of workplace flexibility and other creative solutions for improving the quality of the workplace for employees. The program airs Sunday, April 5 at 1 p.m./noon CT on KET1 and Tuesday, April 7 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT on KET2.Swanberg talks about the institute's mission and research, describing innovative workplace solutions that benefit both employers and employees. She lists a few of the eight dimensions of the organization's Innovative Workplace Model, which lead to increased employee recruitment, retention and engagement. For instance, flexible working hours can help companies attract and retain talented employees seeking a balance between work and family.
Swanberg also discusses the Institute for Workplace Innovation's participation in the national When Work Works initiative, which highlights the importance of workplace flexibility as a business strategy. This initiative allows employers to apply for an award for excellence in workplace flexibility, and Swanberg reveals some of the methods used by past winners.
Finally, Swanberg discusses how the economic downturn is affecting the workplace, among other topics.
