KET Presents pbs
Walden play, other programs recognize Earth Week
A two act, four character play featuring a conversation between Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson is presented in Walden: The Ballad of Thoreau, one of the programs KET has scheduled in recognition of Earth Week. Recorded before a live theater audience at the historic Lexington Opera House, it airs Tuesday, April 21 at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET1.

The play, which has been performed by and for numerous school and community groups, is set during the final two days Thoreau spent in his cabin before leaving Walden Pond. In an age of global warming, bio-fuels, hybrid cars and oil wars, the play introduces audiences to Thoreau and Emerson as well as environmental concerns faced by their own home towns.

Other scheduled Earth Day programming includes:

Nature "The Loneliest Animals," airing Sunday, April 19 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET2, which features scientists' efforts to breed new generations of nearly extinct species;

Green Builders, airing Sunday, April 19 at 10:30/9:30 p.m. CT on KET1, which profiles a cast of pioneers who work to make built environments more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly;

Frontline "Poisoned Waters," airing Tuesday, April 21 at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET2, which looks at the perilous condition of the great coastal estuaries of Puget Sound and the Chesapeake Bay three decades after the Clean Water Act;

Jean-Michel Cousteau: Ocean Adventures "Killer Whales," airing Wednesday, April 22 at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET1, which follows Orcas, now numbering fewer than 100,000 worldwide; and

Renewal: Stories from America's Religious Environmental Movement, airing Monday, April 27 at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET2, which focuses on Americans who are answering a spiritual call to confront the challenges of environmental degradation.
