The next Kentucky Life highlights the music of singer/guitarist Jose Rivera, a special breed of horse common in the hills of Eastern Kentucky, a community of nuns and more Paw Pals. The program, hosted by Dave Shuffett, airs Saturday, May 16 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET1; Sunday, May 17 at 4:30/3:30 p.m. CT on KET1; and Sunday, May 17 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET2.
First, Kentucky Life meets Rivera, a vocalist and guitarist who developed his love for music in his hometown of Aguascalientes, Mexico. Rivera shares his passion for music with Lexington audiences as a performer at the city's Latino Festival and at a Mexican restaurant as part of a mariachi band.
Next, the program travels to Wolfe County, where Nora Deaton shows off her Mountain Pleasure horses. Bred in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky for hundreds of years, these versatile horses are used for both work and recreational purposes. Victoria Tollman, executive director of the Equus Survival Trust, explains why the organization classifies the breed as "critical."
Finally, Kentucky Life visits the sisters of Loretto's Motherhouse in Marion County, a community of active and retired nuns, who farm, host retreats, maintain an art gallery and conduct tours detailing the history of one of the oldest convents west of the Appalachians.
