On the next One to One with Bill Goodman, author Robyn Waters, former vice-president of trend, design and product development at Target and a speaker at the 10th Annual Women's Business and Leadership Conference in Lexington, shares her thoughts on recent consumer trends. The program, recorded at the Downtown Lexington Hotel, airs Sunday, June 14 at 1 p.m./noon CT on KET1 and Tuesday, June 16 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT on KET2.A professional consultant and advisor, Waters explains how she helps businesses understand the latest consumer trends and envision future ones. She discusses how several companies, including Target, Starbucks and MINI, have successfully created products that are not only functional, but also give customers a sense of joy and delight. She also talks about the success of the Toyota Scion, a car popular with three seemingly disparate groups: 18- to 25-year-old males, baby boomers and soccer moms.
Waters discusses her books, The Trendmaster's Guide: Get a Jump on What Your Customer Wants Next and The Hummer and the Mini: Navigating the Contradictions of the New Trend Landscape, how the economic downturn has affected her theories, and why she recently learned to ride a motorcycle.
