Kentucky Muse, KET's award-winning arts series celebrating the world of creativity found within the Bluegrass State, encores Mondays, beginning July 6 at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET2.The first program, "Master of Still Life," recounts Louisville artist Mary Ann Currier's life in the arts, from her early work as a commercial artist at the Stewart's department store to her years of teaching at the Louisville School of Art. Retired KET producer Guy Mendes recently received a regional Emmy nomination in the Cultural Documentary category for this program.
On July 13, Kentucky Muse visits the J.P. Fraley Mountain Music Gatherin', combining jam sessions and interviews with rare vintage footage from this Eastern Kentucky tradition.
"Murder, They Wrote," airing July 20, features the inaugural International Mystery Writers' Festival in Owensboro. The program follows several plays from rehearsals to final presentation, including an award-winning play by a Kentucky native.
The Kentucky Muse series also includes profiles of Kentucky novelists Silas House, Sheila Williams and Kirby Gann; an intimate look at a play that brought an Eastern Kentucky community together; and encore presentations of KET documentaries on artist Ellis Wilson, Kentucky's Affrilachian poets and folk-music legend Jean Ritchie.
Also, the vibrant glasswork of Stephen Rolfe Powell and the intricate automata sculpture of Steve Armstrong reveal the distinctive energies of two gifted Kentucky artists on "Fire and Motion," airing in August. Producer Tom Thurman, videographer Frank Simkonis and Armstrong all received Emmy nominations for their work on this piece. Simkonis also won a variety of national industry awards for "Fire and Motion," including Telly, Accolade and Videographer awards.
