The next Connections with Renee Shaw looks at how minority-owned businesses are faring during the economic downturn and tools that are available to help small businesses survive and thrive. Guests include Anthony Wright, economic development officer for the Lexington Fayette Urban County Government, and Marilyn Clark, founder and president of Worksmart, a Lexington-based training and consulting business. The program airs Friday, July 24 at 4/3 p.m. CT on KET2 and Sunday, July 26 at 1:30/12:30 p.m. CT on KET1.
Wright, who is organizing the annual Lexington-Bluegrass Minority Business Expo in August, discusses the event's keynote speakers and seminars, including a session on how small businesses can get involved in the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. Wright also says that one of the major goals of the conference is to encourage large corporate entities to diversify their supply chains by working with smaller minority-owned businesses.
Clark discusses her path to becoming a business owner and offers advice to those hoping to launch their own enterprises. She stresses the importance of solid business and financial plans and lists the many resources she utilizes to improve her business.
The guests also talk about the challenges for minority-owned businesses in Lexington and opportunities for small businesses in the current economic climate, among other topics.
