John Updike's Kentucky Author Forum appearance encores on KET

In an encore presentation, Kentucky Author Forum Presents features the late John Updike, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author and an avid golfer, who discusses his book Golf Dreams. The program, which originally aired in 1997, encores Sunday, July 19 at 10/9 p.m. CT on KET2. Updike is interviewed by Robert Siegel, host of National Public Radio's All Things Considered.

One of America's most renowned writers, Updike was the author of m ore than 40 books, including collections of short stories, poems and criticism. During his career, he was awarded the National Book Award, the American Book Award, the National Book Critics Circle Award and the Pulitzer Prize.

As a guest of the Kentucky Author Forum, Updike discussed Golf Dreams, a collection of stories and essays on golfers' eternal battle with that small, dimpled white ball, as well as In the Beauty of the Lilies, which The New York Times called his most ambitious novel to date. In the novel, Updike charts the fortunes of an American family through four generations to create a portrait of the country, from its nervous entry into the 20th century to its stumbling approach toward the millennium.
