On the next Connections with Renee Shaw, Annette Bridges, director of the Kentucky Department of Education's Early Childhood Development Program, talks about the state's plan to get kids on the right academic track before they enter kindergarten. The program airs Friday, July 31 at 4/3 p.m. CT on KET2 and Sunday, Aug. 2 at 1:30/12:30 p.m. CT on KET1.Bridges discusses factors that affect learning and development in children from birth to 4 years old, including socio-economic status. High-quality, well-equipped early childhood classrooms, she says, can make dramatic differences in children's growth and abilities. Bridges reveals techniques that allow teachers to address the needs of each individual child.
Bridges also discusses the Early Childhood Development Program's star system for rating child-care facilities, its Healthy Babies campaign, Kentucky's successes and challenges in the field of early childhood education and more.
