The next edition of Louisville Life profiles the late Hugh Haynie, longtime editorial cartoonist for the Courier-Journal; takes in the collection at the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft; visits a dynamic glassblowing studio; and more. The program, hosted by Candyce Clifft, airs Thursday, July 30 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT on KET2; Saturday, Aug. 1 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET1; and Sunday, Aug. 2 at noon/11 a.m. CT on KET2.
For decades, editorial cartoonist Haynie provided Courier-Journal readers wit and wisdom with the point of his pen. Louisville Life looks at how Haynie influenced the art of editorial cartooning and the continued presence of his work in Louisville. Next, the program visits the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, a nonprofit organization that has support ed artists and provided educational programs to school children and adults for more than 25 years. Then, viewers learn the colorful history of the distinctive Kaden Tower, including its ties to renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Back at the studio, author Gary P. West discusses his books, Shopping Your Way Across Kentucky, Eating Your Way Across Kentucky and Eating Your Way Across Kentucky...The Recipes. The program also includes an excerpt from KET's arts series, Kentucky Muse. The segment, taken from the "Fire and Motion" program, explores Stephen Rolfe Powell's Centre College glasswork studio, which bombards the senses with burning glass, rock music, materials at temperatures of up to 2,000 degrees and vibrant splashes of color.
