On the next Connections with Renee Shaw, Renee talks with Lexington artist and New York native Marjorie Guyon, who shares how living in Kentucky has been crucial in the development of her art even though most of her work is shown and purchased outside of the Bluegrass state. Guyon also discusses her latest body of work, "The Illumina Project," which is currently sh owcased in a downtown Lexington bank. The program airs Friday, Sept. 11 at 5/4 p.m. CT on KET2 and Sunday, Sept. 13 at 1:30/12:30 p.m. CT on KET1.
Guyon spent much of her childhood roaming the halls of the Museum of Modern Art, but as an adult, she obtained a degree in poetry and moved around the country as a writer. Later, though she had no connections whatsoever to the art world, Guyon began to pursue her dream of becoming a painter.
On the program, Guyon discusses her artistic process and her subject matter, including how she incorporates collages into her ancient-looking paintings. Guyon also talks about "The Illumina Project," a series of ten paintings temporarily adorning the marble walls inside Lexington's Fifth Third Bank on West Main Street. The paintings, she says, are designed to promote hope and healing for those experiencing economic hardships.
