Kentucky Life kicks off its 15th season with Kentucky native and country music legend Loretta Lynn. The season premiere also features the Bluegrass Heritage Museum; a unique portion of downtown Louisville; and a miniature horse farm, where the residents have big personalities.
Kentucky Life’s new season also has a new look: the program is now produced entirely in high definition, showcasing the people and places of the Commonwealth as they’ve never been seen before. The program, hosted by Dave Shuffett, airs Saturday, Oct. 3 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET; Sunday, Oct. 4 at 4:30/3:30 p.m. CT on KET; and Sunday, Oct. 4 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT on KET2.
First, Kentucky Life travels to Renfro Valley, where Lynn talks about her love of country music, her childhood and early career, and her Kentucky roots. Kentucky author and fervent Lynn fan Silas House discusses Lynn’s importance in his family, recalling the day he went to see Coal Miner’s Daughter, an Academy Award-winning film based on Lynn’s autobiography.
Then, it’s off to Clark County’s Bluegrass Heritage Museum, where museum director Sandra Stults takes Dave on a tour through military, agriculture and other exhibits. Housed in the historic Guerrant Clinic building, the museum’s artifacts range in date from the 1700s to the early 1900s.
Next, “Downtown,” a new segment in the series, visits Louisville’s Frankfort Avenue. This aging corridor recently underwent a facelift, and it is now home to many unique locally owned boutiques, galleries, restaurants and entertainment venues.
Finally, Kentucky Life visits Little Pegasus Pastures, a horse farm in Jefferson County operated by Ed and Patty Birchler, who began caring for miniature horses as a family activity. Their hobby soon became a passion, and the farm is now home to more than 30 minis.
Kentucky Life is a KET production, produced by Brandon Wickey. Segment producers are Cheryl Beckley, Shuffett, Tom Thurman and Valerie Trimble. More information about Kentucky Life, including streaming video, is available at www.ket.org/kentuckylife.
