Kentucky Life cruises in classic Cadillacs, peers into magician’s hat, studies the ancients, more

For Release: 2009-09-23 11:39:00

Viewers revisit the glory days of American automobiles at Brown Brothers Cadillac in Louisville; “Our Town” visits Leitchfield, a Grayson County community with real charm; Bowling Green magician John Calvert makes time stand still; and Clay County’s mysterious petroglyphs, or ancient writings, are explored on the next edition of Kentucky Life. The program, hosted by Dave Shuffett, airs Saturday, Oct. 10 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET; Sunday, Oct. 11 at 4:30/3:30 p.m. CT on KET; and Sunday, Oct. 11 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT on KET2.

First, Kentucky Life looks at the history of the Cadillac, from the 1902 Model A through the 1962 convertible, with Brown Brothers Cadillac, a downtown Louisville car dealership. Brown Brothers owner Gary Brown takes Dave on a tour through the private collection, including a car that was loaned to former Governor John Y. Brown for his inauguration parade and another used by Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf in the Pegasus Parade after the first Gulf War.

Next, “Our Town,” a new Kentucky Life segment, visits Leitchfield, located between Nolin and Rough River lakes.

Then, the program meets Calvert, who was bitten by the magic bug at an early age when his father took him to a magic show. Now, the 98-year-old Calvert holds the record for the world’s longest-running magic show. He was also once a stand-in for Clark Gable.

Finally, Kentucky Life examines the Red Bird River Shelter Petroglyphs, a series of carvings on a stone in Manchester, Ky., that have been interpreted as inscriptions from at least eight extinct alphabets.

Kentucky Life is a KET production, produced by Brandon Wickey. Segment producers are Joshua Neidwick, Shuffett, Valerie Trimble and Wickey.
