Louisville Life meets adventurous local, gets in touch with spiritual side, chats about weather

For Release: 2009-10-01 17:09:00

On the next edition of Louisville Life, viewers meet adventurer and educator Tori Murden McClure, visit the Abbey of Gethsemani, learn the history of the Southern Seminary, get a report from the chief meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Louisville and more. The program, hosted by Candyce Clifft, airs Thursday, Oct. 22 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT on KET2; Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET; and Sunday, Oct. 25 at noon/11 a.m. CT on KET2.

First, Louisville Life meets McClure, the first woman to accomplish the feats of rowing solo across the Atlantic Ocean, skiing to the South Pole and climbing a dramatic Antarctic mountain peak, the Lewis Nunatak. She also has earned a master’s degree from Harvard, a law degree from the University of Louisville and serves as a vice-president at Spalding University. McClure discusses her new book, A Pearl in the Storm, including why it focuses on her first, unsuccessful attempt to row across the Atlantic.

Next, the program visits Nelson County’s Abbey of Gethsemani, where monks live lives of service and worship, supporting themselves by making fruitcake, cheese and bourbon fudge.

Also, Louisville Life offers a brief history of the Southern Seminary, the first seminary of the Southern Baptist Convention. Founded in 1859, it relocated from Greenville, S.C., to Louisville in 1877.

Then, John Gordon, the chief meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Louisville, discusses the past 12 months of weather in Louisville, including the recent flash flood, February’s ice storm and last year’s hurricane winds.

Finally, the program visits Capriole Farmstead Goat Cheeses, an Indiana business that makes fresh, ripened and aged cheeses by hand using only the milk from their own goat herd. Some of their cheeses have been recognized as the best in the world.

Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is producer/writer; associate producer is Kelli Brodersen.
