Louisville Life features The Concrete Lady, popular history teacher, Hawks View Gallery

For Release: 2009-11-20 10:16:00

The Concrete Lady turns motorists’ heads, an award-winning teacher inspires his history students and the Hawks View Gallery and Café draws tourists to Bullitt County on the next Louisville Life. The program, hosted by Candyce Clifft, airs Thursday, Dec. 3 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT and Friday, Dec. 4 at 5:30/4:30 p.m. CT on KET2.

First, tons of Interstate-65 motorists zip past The Concrete Lady Inc. every day. Louisville Life pulls over to examine the local business’s statuary, concrete ornaments, knick-knacks, what-nots and home decor.

Next, viewers meet Ken Dennis, who has twice been named Outstanding Teacher in History in Kentucky. The Highlands Latin School faculty member is using a personal connection to the Titanic story to help interest his students in history of the era. After meeting Dennis and his students, Louisville Life accompanies him to the Louisville Science Center’s Titanic exhibit.

Then, the program looks back at the Columbia Building, which was demolished in 1966. The Columbia Building enjoyed the title of Louisville’s tallest building for a decade.  The view from the top of the 10-story building was a popular tourist attraction, designed to attract attention to the city and modernize downtown.

Also, Candyce interviews Steve Wilson, who owns the 21c Museum Hotel. Louisville gained a new bragging right this fall when the 21c was selected best hotel in the U.S. by Conde Nast Traveler.

Finally, Louisville Life visits Hawks View Gallery and Café, one of Bullitt County’s top tourist attractions.

Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is producer/writer; associate producer is Kelli Brodersen.
