The next Louisville Life recalls a Louisvillian who stood nearly 8 feet tall, meets a glaciologist at the top of his field, looks back at the infamous Ford Edsel and more. The program, hosted by Candyce Clifft, airs Thursday, Dec. 17 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT on KET2; Saturday, Dec. 19 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET; and Sunday, Dec. 20 at noon/11 a.m. CT on KET2.First, Louisville’s giant Jim Porter listed his own height as 6 ft., 21 in. Louisville Life learns of future plans to honor the man Charles Dickens called a “lighthouse among lampposts” at the newly-renovated Portland Museum.
Next, among those who study glaciers internationally, the University of Louisville’s Keith Mountain, chair of the Department of Geography and Geosciences, is revered with rock star status. Louisville Life discusses his work, his adventurous trips to glaciers throughout the world and the impact humans may be having on climate change.
Then, this year is the 50th anniversary of rise and fall of the Ford Edsel, which was manufactured in Louisville. The program explores why people have called it “the wrong car at the wrong time.”
Back at the studio, Candyce meets Paula Campbell of Louisville’s Junior League, who discusses the League’s popular regional cookbook, Cordon Bluegrass, and other items on the organization’s menu.
Finally, the Louisville Bach Society is also celebrating an anniversary. Headed by Melvin Dickinson and headquartered in his home, the group marked its 45th year in 2009. When he graduated from college, Dickinson spent two years in Germany studying Bach on a Fulbright Scholarship. Since then, he has been determined to share his passion for Bach’s music with as many people as possible. He now arranges a yearly schedule of concerts of works by Bach and other composers in Louisville, plus touring dates around Kentucky and the region.
