Louisville Life marks rock band’s anniversary, meets Southern Belle, visits Doo Wop Shop

For Release: 2010-01-05 10:28:00

The next edition of Louisville Life celebrates with The Monarchs, meets reality TV star Julie Smith, rocks at The Doo Wop Shop and more. The program, hosted by Candyce Clifft, airs Thursday, Jan. 21 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT on KET2; Saturday, Jan. 23 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET; and Sunday, Jan. 24 at noon/11 a.m. CT on KET2.

First, Louisville Life celebrates Louisville’s great American rock ‘n’ roll band, The Monarchs, and their 50th anniversary with long-time members Leon Middleton and Dusty Miller. In 1964, this Louisville institution’s hit song “Look Homeward Angel” was number one in 17 markets across the nation.

Then, model, television host and reality television star Smith talks about what it’s like to be on camera 24 hours a day. She discusses being one of the Southern Belles, a Louisville-based reality show airing on SoapNet. Along with her continuing modeling career, Smith also appears weekdays on WBKI’s Louisville Live This Morning.

And, reality TV keeps Louisvillians center stage practically year-round. Louisville Life profiles some of the River City’s famous and infamous reality stars and gets the latest on their lives beyond the tube.

Next, Candyce meets Lynnie Meyer, RN MSN and chief development officer of Norton Healthcare. Before joining Norton Healthcare, Meyer served as president and chief executive officer of the Center for Women and Families in Louisville. She also has a long history of involvement in leadership positions with Louisville civic organizations.

Finally, for more than 35 years, The Doo Wop Shop has been renting music equipment to people of all ages. The store survived the 1974 tornado that ripped through the Highlands as well as a fire in 2008. Owner Victor Hambaugh discusses the store’s history and long-term success.

Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is producer/writer; associate producer is Kelli Brodersen.
